An architecture competition was employed as a vehicle to explore ways of using a number of passive design strategies and measures within the context of a complex public buildings in hot arid region. The main concept was derived by the climatic conditions of the location and constrains imposed by the microclimate. The resulting proposal is an energy efficient hybrid building that not only response to the climate but also repose to the site and the client’s needs. In this project I led a team of three and produced a full set of drawings and a physical model. Gallery
TFCR is now working to create a new community enterprise model for the sustainable use of scarce resources. It has originated plans to develop an ECO-centre in partnership with local authorities, SEPA and other organisations. In this project the architectural and environmental strategies for the refurbishment of the premises from which the ‘Tayside Foundation for the Conservation of Resources’ (TFCR) operates were investigated. Ways for enhancing the thermal and lighting performance of the building was explored. A report was produced in liaison with Dickson Penn Architecture. Gallery
